T'rin finished her meatroll and looked around. No one even seemed to be paying attention, even in this highly dangerous situation. A grin stole across her face as she spoke to her dragon. >>Terith love, wake this lot of sillies up will you? They really should be paying attention. Imagine if something turned up, they'd all be eaten<< The green dropped her jaw, hissing slightly and eyes whirling with tinges of orange and red. The dragon wasn't mean, but she really enjoyed scaring weyrlings that weren't paying attention. T'rin grinned as she felt the green inhale deeply and then let out a loud bellow. T'rin jumped, and she grinned in satisfaction as the rest of the group did too.
"Well, now that I have all your attention" she said as heads turned towards her "You all should have been watching your surroundings. Anything could have crept up on you, there are after all, hunting packs of Ursadur here!" Terith turned her head to look into the forest, she smelled Ursador and was starting to get hungry. T'rin shook loose her rope, making sure the loop in it was stiff, and the rope itself free of snags, and started to explain how to use it. "You need to make sure the loop is free. Dangle it as you fly over your prey, then quickly drop the loop over the head of the Ursador, loop the rope around a neckridge, and have your dragon catch the rope. Then all you need to do is pull up and fast. The resulting wrench to the beast will snap it's neck. You all got that?" She waited until she got affirmative nods from everyone, then urged Terith forwards. "We will go first, show you how it's done, you will be needed to split the pack though, and another one needed to flush them. Ursador are usually shy of humans, but it's better to get rid of this pack before they attack a child"
Deep in the bushes the watcher snarled, lip curling as it scented the air. Not only were there animals around, there was prey too. Curled round the nest it was guarding the creature hissed as a loud bellow sounded through the trees. Laying as still as she would, she turned her head to peer through the trees, looking out at the riders and their dragons. There was one of the green ones nearer the forest edge, and her attention was focused on that.
K'iera nearly jumped out of her straps at the loud bellow, then flushed with guilt as she realised that she had indeed been staring off into the trees. She had seen something though, she was sure of it, low to the ground, but big. With a shrug, she turned to face T'rin, listening to what she said. She shook out her rope and checked it, then asked Jryllith if she understood what to do. <<I am to grab the rope, and you are to pull. It is easy enough for me to remember!>> K'iera grinned and thumped the green shoulder, being suffused suddenly with a feeling of great love, then a tinge of worry for some reason. Looking back at the forest, she shivered. Something was there, and it was heading towards them. Slowly, but it was moving. Must be the Ursadur, she thought, it wouldn't take much to flush them out of the forest. She asked Jryll to turn round slightly so she could keep a proper eye on the forest, Ursadur wouldn't harm a human adragonback.
The watcher moved. There was a pack of Ursador near, and she was worried for her nest. Uncurling herself, she stretched then slowly moved towards the pack of sleeping creatures. One lifted it's head, scenting the air. It laid it's head back down, then suddenly, in one movement, stood and sniffed deeply. The watcher froze, not wanting them alerted too soon, but she was too late. With a panicked cry, the large Ursadur that had stood leapt forwards, stirring the others into action and depriving the watcher of a meal and the fun of a chase. Blind to anything else, they stampeded towards the edge of the forest, the smell of human and dragon getting stronger, but not as frightening as the smell from behind them.
T'rin heard the disturbance in the forest and gave the order to get ready to take off. Lifting into the air, she watched with horror as she saw the size of the pack bearing down on the unprepared weyrlings. The weyrling group had waited too long before takeoff, and they were hit by a pack of terrified beasts that seemed to have no idea of what they were doing.
K'iera screamed as the fast moving pack of Ursadur burst out of the forest, and Jryllith screamed in pain as a group of them scrambled up her tail to her back, knocking K'iera off her back, and cutting deep gouges in the green's back, sides and wings as the panicked pack tried to get away from what was in the forest. One of the beasts jumped from her back and landed on K'iera, tearing her leg open, and bring a shriek from the wounded girl before she slipped into shock. Jryllith screamed in anguish, jumping into the air in preperation to go between as K'iera's mind touch left hers.
Terith saw the green lift into the air, and saw her rider on the ground, heard the anguished scream from the dragon and acted as she thought best. Screaming at the top of her mind, she called for more adult riders to stop the green going between, then dove groundwards to try and disentangle the weyrlings from the terrified Ursadur that were swarming all over them.

T'rah had been staring off into space half asleep when the bellow had come. >>Asarath?<< She asked sleepily, then screamed when the Ursador attacked. >>GET US OUT OF HERE!<< Asarath spread her wingsails and finally got into the air, then caught sight of Jryllith. ><No! Stay, Jryllith! We will help yours!>< The green bravely dived back toward the attack, using her wings and tail to knock the Ursador away from K'iela. T'rah jumped down, pulling K'iela onto her green, then having Asarath lift back up. "Hold on, K'iela. Trace needs you! Don't you dare leave him alone!" She urged as Asarath tried to get up. Her wing was still weak, but she made it up, whimpering as pain shot through her wingmuscles. <<What should we do?>> >>We have to get her to a healer!<<

A'lina stared at Tolenth as he did at her, then she was overcome by the Ursadors. She screamed with pain as they attacked her, but Tolenth tried to hold them off.

P'lor jumped toward Oarth as the bronze launched himself into the air. <<We must help the Weyrlings!>> >>GO!<< They went between, coming out with a bugle above the ambush. The bronze dove toward the pack of Ursadors, killing them the only thing in his mind. _________________ Come join the fun! Cove Weyr!
